Airsoft players like to wear tactical clothing and use tactical accessories not just because they add realism to the game but also because tactical airsoft gear fulfills practical needs that real soldiers have. These needs include being able to carry spare magazines, water, food and other such equipment.
Some of the most common holsters and load bearing vests that are replicated in the Airsoft game include:
There are also some players who like to wear military-style helmets. These are similar to the Kevlar PASGT (Personnel Armor System for Ground Troops) helmet, which was used by the American military in the early 1980s until it was succeeded in the early 2000s by the MICH TC-2000 Combat Helmet and Interceptor body armor. The PASGT helmet is made out of Kevlar, which is able to offer protection against fragmentation and ballistic threats. Usually it is olive drab in color and can be fitted with cloth helmet covers in varying camouflage patterns, including the U.S. woodland, six-color desert, three-color desert, solid black (for SWAT teams) and special designs for both the Marine Corps and Army.
Many airsoft players also like to use hydration systems, which is an apparatus that is intended to help player drink enough liquid to support the physical effort that they are putting first. Most of the time, these come with a flexible “straw”, has the capacity to hold a few quarts, a reliable seal and a bite valve for starting and stopping the flow of liquid through the straw with minimum effort. One company that manufactures such systems is CamelBak, which is an outdoors equipment company that is primarily known primarily for their hydration packs. Other companies that make hydration packs include GoLite, Kelty, Novara, Platypus and Gelert. Oftentimes these are also mistakenly referred to as CamelBaks. However, CamelBaks usually come in 50 to 100 oz. back pack styles and smaller belt-type 28 to 45 oz. packs.
